Digital delivery for healthcare

Opencast's digital expertise helps healthcare organisations to give patients and the people who support them the services they need to deliver.

We can help health organisations deliver better access, improved patient experience – and ultimately better healthcare. We will help them to move away from legacy technologies, offering a better user experience so that services can be more patient-centred, and ensure that sensitive data is kept safe and secure.

Opencast has worked in the healthcare sector since we were founded in 2012, helping organisations to make the most of new technologies and improve the experience of those who use the health service. We’re building our offer to help more healthcare organisations to deliver their work.

We believe in making life better through the power of people and technology, and our values – inclusive for all and working in partnership – align closely with those of the NHS.

We're able to grow the range of services we offer by using the expertise and knowledge of new people who've joined the team with direct experience inside the NHS and other healthcare organisations.

Who we work with

Portfolio of health experience

Opencast has worked with the NHS Business Services Authority, which provides business support services to the NHS. Our teams have worked on a range of NHSBSA projects and programmes, sharing expertise in user-centred design, programme, project and agile delivery, and software development. This work has helped BSA to modernise its systems and deliver the background services that enable the NHS to function.

Our teams have worked on health-focused projects with DWP Health and DWP Digital, with projects to support employees with disabilities and long-term health conditions, and helping to build the NHS prescription charge exemption service, saving the taxpayer millions of pounds every year.

We have also worked with digital health business eConsult Health – founded by four GP partners in south London to give patients better access to GP services. Our software and product teams have worked with eConsult to grow its technology services. eConsult is now live in over 2500 NHS GP practices and 10 emergency departments across the UK, where its technology is used to triage incoming patients.

In October 2023 we began work with the GMDN Agency – working with the leading global standard for the naming, classification and categorisation of medical devices on an upgrade of its user platform and digital offering.

Healthcare insights

Patient-centred care in the NHS

Opencast's new report on patient-centred care sets out the challenges and opportunities facing the health service. It explores how listening to the voices of patients, clinicians and other stakeholders is essential in building for the future.

Patient-centred care in the NHS sets out seven core principles that we see as essential for positive change. We know from experience that insights from users form the foundation for delivering the best solutions. These same insights are also critical to the delivery of truly patient-centred care.

eConsult’s AI transcriber frees up NHS GP time

GPs and other NHS healthcare clinicians working in the NHS face huge time pressures to do their jobs effectively. A factor that makes this pressure worse is the time it takes the clinicians to write up notes from patient consultations and devise treatment plans – with documentation taking up to a third of their precious time.
