Certified B Corporation®

We’re proud to be a Certified B Corporation ®

B Corp Certification means that Opencast is part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. These standards are set out by independent body B Lab and cover social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Opencast’s purpose is to make life better through the power of people and technology. We have committed to a clear social impact approach to enable us to have a positive impact on society through solutions that are simpler, more sustainable and fairer for all.

Our B Corp Certification is just one part of this but it’s important for us that we are independently assessed to know that we truly are doing good for our people, clients, communities and the planet.

In the B Impact assessment, Opencast has earned an overall score of 89.8.

As a Certified B Corporation®, we’re committed, both legally and morally, to consider and report on five areas of impact: community, customers, environment, governance and workers.

Governance

The assessment considers our governance structures, processes, and practices in light of our stakeholders’ interests and the ethos of the B Corp movement. It includes how we make decisions that consider all stakeholders, not just shareholders. This aligns with us signing up to the Better Business Act.

Workers

‘Workers’ assesses the experience our people have while working at Opencast. It includes Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, culture and management. It considers how we’re building a healthy culture and enabling our people to thrive.

Customers

‘Customers’ assesses our relationship and stewardship of our clients and partners, and the impact our work has on the communities they serve. It considers how far we collaborate with our clients to do good things for people and planet, as well as deliver on their own organisational goals.

Community

‘Community’ assesses our understanding and relationship to our community and those connected with Opencast - including our people, clients and their end users. It considers our impact with volunteering, our pro bono work, and our clients’ impact. It includes our offices and physical spaces, as well as ensuring we do no harm when delivering our work.

Environment

This area of impact assesses our environmental management system, including our decarbonisation efforts towards Net Zero. It considers how we build sustainability into everything we do.

Why B Corp?

Being a Certified B Corporation® formalises social goals as key business objectives. It’s a way of enabling us to firm up our commitments – to track and improve so that we are working to be a better company and making life better for our people, our clients and our communities.

Inside a collaboration between education, industry and healthcare

What happens when education, industry, and creativity come together in practice? In this blog, Vanessa Waters explores Opencast’s work with Daydream Believers and NHS Scotland, and how this collaboration is creating learning experiences that feel connected to the real world. Through the Caring Innovators NHS Challenge, young people navigate meaningful healthcare challenges, developing ideas and solutions that reach beyond the classroom. Alongside pupils, teachers are part of the journey too, building the confidence and tools to guide exploration that matters. At the heart of the work is Opencast’s first community partnership with Daydream Believers, bringing education and industry closer together to make learning more immersive, relevant and grounded — where the future of work meets the realities of today, and imagination finds a practical path into action.
