Delivering impact in a challenging year
2023 has been about growth and overcoming challenges, Opencast chief executive Tom Lawson says in his end-of-year review.
Tom joined Opencast in 2019 and has been the company’s Chief Executive since 2020. He has overseen the rapid growth of the business from a regional North East-based organisation of 80 people to a UK-wide business of 500, growing revenues from £6 million to over £55 million.
Tom has nearly 20 years of experience shaping, leading and delivering significant business and technology change programmes. He is passionate about the impact Opencast can have on its people, its clients and wider society as a result.
In 2022 Tom completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in Boston, alongside 200 world business leaders. Returning from Harvard he reaffirmed Opencast’s commitment to social impact, leading the business towards its 2024 certification as a purpose-driven B Corp.
Before joining Opencast, Tom spent nine years at Capgemini working on digital delivery and innovation, and another six on programmes at BT Global Services. He is former Prince’s Trust mentor.
Tom was born and raised in Yorkshire, and graduated from Durham University with a Geography BA and Internet Systems & eBusiness MSc before settling permanently with his family in the North East.
