Backing regional tech growth

Back

Opencast contributes to the growth of the UK’s regional tech economy – not least in the English North East where the company was first established in 2012 and still provides employment for the majority of our people.

Dynamo founders

Opencast's Mike O’Brien and Charlie Hoult were co-founders of the non-profit Dynamo North East campaign established in 2015, and Charlie remains Dynamo chair of the organisation alongside senior executives from fellow co-founders Accenture and Sage.

Among Dynamo’s big regional successes have been helping to secure £30m in funding for a new National Institute for Smart Data Innovation in Newcastle and supporting the creation of a new North East Futures University Technical College specialising in health science and IT. Dynamo’s annual conference and Dynamites awards celebrate the region’s tech success.

Talent challenge

Opencast chief people officer Cate Kalson also plays a leading role in Dynamo’s efforts to address the region’s talent shortage – one of the biggest single challenges facing technology businesses across the UK.

We are supporting the creation of Dynamo's new digital talent engine in an effort to help fill the 4000 vacancies that exist and which represent 21% of all job openings in the region.
