The Role

We’re looking for a senior technical architect that’s always outcome-focused. That solves complex problems and creates real business value. 

 

What you’ll do within our teams

  • Be responsible for the technical design of systems and services
  • Define strategy and provide technical assurance of new services 
  • Collaborate and find agreement with senior stakeholders
  • Identify problems and translate them into descriptions everyone can understand 
  • Mentor and coach junior colleagues
  • Work with the wider architecture community to drive common solutions and services
  • Be an ambassador for Opencast and a trusted advisor to clients
  • You’ll suit this role if you:

  • can interpret stakeholders needs and build agreement. 
  • think outside the box, ask questions and share your thoughts. 
  • have a collaborative, open-minded approach.
  • can guide and apply strategies, using patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements.
  • can turn complex business problems into technical designs in impactful scenarios. 
  • understand emerging trends, practices and technologies and how they impact your work. 
  • can spot underlying risks and opportunities, and respond to them before they happen. 
  • know how to define, develop and apply architecture and design governance. 
  • have experience of designing user-centred solutions using microservices architectures (AWS).  
  • have a good understanding of product management and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban). 
  • want to contribute to a growing architecture community.

  • JVM based programming languages and frameworks  
  • Web/MVC frameworks with templating  
  • Document-based databases  
  • Distributed version control systems  
  • Agile delivery and tracking tools  
  • Centralised logging and auditing events

    Where you’ll work 
    At Opencast, we’re not remote-first – we’re hybrid. Our hybrid working model is about being in the right place at the right time to deliver your work, taking into account the requirements of your client and your team as well as your own. This could mean working at a client site, remotely at home or at one of our offices around the UK.
     
    Interview process 
    Interviews take place over Microsoft Teams. If that doesn’t work for you, we’ll do everything we can to support and make any necessary adjustments. We want to ensure everyone has the best possible interview experience. 
     
    Applicants from overseas 
    We accept applicants from overseas but once you’re appointed you need to work in the UK.
