Lead Technical Architect

The Role

We are looking for a dynamic, outcomes-focused lead technical architect to help design and deliver truly transformational changes for our clients. You’ll be a thought leader with strong technical skills and an agile mindset, passionate about solving problems to deliver business value. Adept at building and developing influential relationships with both business and technical stakeholders, you’ll lead technical architects and delivery teams in the design of systems and services across multiple initiatives, guiding, proposing, assuring and challenging technical decisions constructively in line with broader business and architectural strategies. Critically, you will use your excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence, adapting your style to your audience appropriately, to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical people to achieve consensus and alignment.

What you’ll do within our teams

  • Work with multiple projects or teams on problems and initiatives that require broad architectural thinking
  • Be responsible for leading the technical design of systems and services, communicating design decisions and rationale
  • Assure quality of other services and systems, making sure that technical solutions fit into broader strategy
  • Mentor colleagues and provide leadership to other architects
  • Work with the wider architecture community (enterprise architects, solution architects and technical architects) to drive common solutions and services
  • Be an ambassador for Opencast, and a trusted advisor to the client
  • You’ll suit this role if you:

  • have strong technical leadership skills and experience as a technical architect.
  • can expertly bridge the gap between the technical and non-technical, mediating between people and communicating with stakeholders at all levels to build consensus.
  • have the courage to think differently, ask questions and voice your opinion.
  • have a collaborative, consultative, open-minded approach.
  • can define and challenge strategies, patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements, and provide proactive advice and guidance for their definition across a client organisation.
  • can turn business problems into technical designs for high-risk/complexity/business impact scenarios.
  • understand the potential impact and application of the latest trends, practices and emerging technologies, using them to drive digital innovation.
  • seek out deeper underlying risks and opportunities, anticipating and responding to them before they occur.
  • have a strong background in defining and applying architecture and design governance, providing assurance across services designed by other technical architects.
  • have experience in designing user-centred solutions using microservices architectures (AWS).
  • have a good understanding of product management, agile principles, and development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
  • want to contribute to a growing architecture community.

    Where you’ll work 
    At Opencast, we’re not remote-first – we’re hybrid. Our hybrid working model is about being in the right place at the right time to deliver your work, taking into account the requirements of your client and your team as well as your own. This could mean working at a client site, remotely at home or at one of our offices around the UK.

    Interviews take place over Microsoft Teams. If that doesn’t work for you, we’ll do everything we can to support and make any necessary adjustments. We want to ensure everyone has the best possible interview experience.

    We accept applicants from overseas but once you’re appointed you need to work in the UK.
