We are looking for an experienced and pro-active lead cloud architect to work within the DevOps and Cloud service at Opencast. You’ll be working with new and existing clients to deliver high-impact improvements through technical, organisational and cultural change. You’ll be comfortable cultivating strong relationships with client business and senior technical representatives, as well as mentoring and leading teams of engineers. Critically, you will use your excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence, adapting your style to your audience appropriately, to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical people to achieve consensus and alignment.
What you'll do within our teams
Engage with clients in early contact and through the scoping of work and solutions. Work with Opencast staff and clients to identify and design solutions to client problems. Provide consultancy services to clients to identify problems with their current provision and advocate for best-practice solutions. Work with multiple projects or teams on problems and initiatives that require broad architectural thinking. Be responsible for leading the technical design of cloud systems and services, communicating design decisions and rationale. Assure quality of other services and systems, making sure that technical solutions fit into broader strategy Work with other architects, cloud and DevOps engineers to build and improve client platforms and solutions. Mentor colleagues and provide leadership to other architects. Work with the Head of DevOps and Cloud Engineering to define and grow the service into new areas, capabilities and clients, acting as Subject Matter Expert in the field of cloud computing. Be an ambassador for Opencast, and a trusted advisor to the client.
You'll suite this role if you:
Have strong technical leadership skills and experience as a cloud architect Can expertly bridge the gap between the technical and non-technical, mediating between people and communicating with stakeholders at all levels to build consensus Have a proven track record of designing, and helping to implement, secure, highly robust and scalable services using an agile approach and a DevOps/Operability mindset. Have the courage to think differently, ask questions and voice your opinion Have a collaborative, consultative, open-minded approach Can define and challenge strategies, patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements, and provide proactive advice and guidance for their definition across a client organisation Can turn business problems into technical designs for high risk/complexity/business impact scenarios Understand the potential impact and application of the latest trends, practices and emerging technologies, using them to drive digital innovation Seek out deeper underlying risks and opportunities, anticipating and responding to them before they occur Have experience of designing user-centred solutions using microservices, serverless and asynchronous architectures using the services of at least two public cloud providers. Have experience in designing platforms based around container-based solutions such as ECS and Kubernetes. Have a good understanding of product management, agile principles, development methodologies and DevOps culture. Want to contribute to a growing architecture community

Infrastructure as Code to define dynamic production-like environments CI and CD pipelines that implement Compliance as Code techniques.

Where you’ll work
At Opencast we trust our people to make the right decisions. You may work remotely from home or, depending on your project, you may be required to occasionally work at a client site or your nearest Opencast office.
